SoA at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair

Next week, SoA Gallery will appear at the prestigious POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair (September 12-15, 2024). The POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair is one of the most important events in the European contemporary and modern art calendar, bringing together around 120 galleries from 20 different countries. The event annually attracts nearly 30,000 curators, collectors, and art enthusiasts from around the world. SoA Gallery will showcase paintings by distinguished artists Andrzej Fogtt, Ivo Nikić, and Paweł Grabowski, while also promoting other artists it collaborates with, including Natalia Ciak, Piotr Trusik, and Wojciech Tylbor-Kubrakiewicz.

Andrzej Fogtt, celebrating the 50th anniversary of his creative career this year, is best known for his large-format series of compositions with dynamic colors and intriguing forms. Fogtt lives and works in Warsaw. The artist was born in Poznań in 1950 and graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań in 1974, under the guidance of Professor Magdalena Abakanowicz and Professor Zdzisław Kępiński. Fogtt is a laureate of the 8th Art Festival at Zachęta in 1979 and a medalist at the Grand Prix of the Polish Painting Festival in Szczecin in 1984. He represented Poland at the Venice Biennale in 1984 and was awarded the Gloria Artis Medal by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2009. At the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair, one of the paintings from Fogtt’s famous series Brda will be presented.

Ivo Nikić, originally from Kosovo, is a multidisciplinary artist. Born in 1974 in Pristina, Nikić graduated with a degree in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 2003. He is interested in urban landscapes, corporeality, music, dirt, waste, and aesthetic clashes. His inspiration comes from street art aesthetics—stencils and spray paints—which he combines with glazing techniques and textured painting. He aims for an effect of “messiness” and a sense of fast-paced execution. Nikić draws inspiration from hip-hop music and sampling. His works feature juxtapositions of various motifs, a nonchalant aesthetic, and a sense of humor. The artist plays with associations, deconstructs the world into parts, questions ready-made solutions, and re-evaluates the categories of beauty and ugliness. Nikić has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Poland (e.g., CSW Zamek Ujazdowski, BWA Zielona Góra, Galeria Studio, Galeria Arsenał in Poznań, Fokus Łódź Biennale) and abroad (e.g., Humboldt Berlin, Umspannwerk; Bat-Yam International Biennale of Landscape Urbanism in Israel; Rotor in Graz, Tokyo Fashion Week, and others).

Paweł Grabowski is an artist whose figurative paintings primarily revolve around the solitary figure of a woman. The paintings are typically rendered in muted colors. Grabowski graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and currently lives and works in Wrocław. The artist has participated in the Graphic Biennale in Poznań and the International Graphic Triennale in Kraków. Paweł Grabowski’s work gained popularity through the Young Art Auction, where his pieces started attracting significant collector attention, quickly making him a recognized figure in the art market. The paintings presented at the fair are part of the artist’s latest series, addressing society’s technocratic tendencies.
