What colour is a December night?
The exhibition Midnight Blue answers this question, immersing viewers in the richness of shades of blue as seen through the eyes of masters of contemporary Polish painting. It is not just a colour, but a guide to different worlds: from spiritual transcendence, through cool analysis of form, to an intimate record of everyday life.
The starting point and heart of the exhibition is an unprecedented event – the first public presentation of Wojciech Fangor’s painting Midnight Blue. It is from its mesmerising, deep colour that the exhibition draws its title, making the work the key to understanding the entire narrative. A story is built around it, in which blue becomes a common language for artists with different temperaments and artistic goals.
The strength of the exhibition lies in its diversity. It combines different forms of abstraction: organic, pulsating compositions, experiments with perception based on op art, and conceptual arrangements focused on reflection.
Similarly, in the case of figuration, representation takes on various functions, but always retains the autonomy and individuality of its means of expression. Each painting constitutes a separate universe, enclosed within a plane of meanings, inviting us to discover the story behind it. Our guide remains the colour blue, whose various manifestations create the unique dynamics of the exhibition, a space in which the works both compete for our attention and complement each other, being part of a larger whole.
The collected works, ranging from expressive in material to focused and minimalist, form a compelling narrative about light, emotions and perception. Midnight Blue shows that a single colour can contain an infinite number of meanings, becoming a universal medium for expressing what is most deeply human.
