We are delighted to invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Burning Saddles”, showcasing the paintings of Stanisław and Wincenty Czwartos.
The Czwartos brothers’ exhibition is a painterly exploration of the relevance of traditional forms in the face of a contemporary world shaken to its foundations. Through a dialogue between dignity and subtle irony, the artists explore whether classical motifs – from Baroque equestrian portraits to symbols referencing antiquity – can still serve as a credible commentary on today’s social and political conflicts.
Stanisław and Wincenty Czwartos are part of the current trend in contemporary Polish painting that boldly turns to the classics of European art. Unlike many contemporary artists, one will find no desire in the brothers’ work to deconstruct or mock tradition. Their works are rather respectful borrowings and erudite inspirations.
The exhibition does not offer ready-made answers, but rather sharpens our awareness of the cracks in reality. The clash of two painterly strategies confronts us with the question of what remains enduring in the face of crisis.
Curator: Dr Marcel Skierski
The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, 21 May, at 7.00 pm at the Skowronscy Art Gallery (SoA), at 30/U5 Grzybowska Street in Warsaw.
