Jerzy Baranowski - artist and painter
Contemporary Art Gallery - Skowronski Art - Works by artist and painter Jerzy Baranowski
A graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he defended his diploma in the studio of Prof. Wojciech Zubala. He also studied under Prof. Stanisław Baj and Prof. Wojciech Cieśniewski.
He works mainly in oil and acrylic techniques. He attaches particular importance to painting technique, especially drawing. He works in both abstraction and figuration, and his early works are strongly rooted in magical realism. Baranowski’s work focuses on experiments with painting materials and minimalist means of expression, which allow him to capture the complexity of human nature through simplified, geometric forms.
From the beginning of his artistic career, Baranowski sought an individual language of expression. He experimented with texture, combined different materials and techniques, tested paint density and non-standard tools – often guided by intuition or chance. Over time, he realised that many of these attempts pointed to new directions worth further exploration. His goal became to evoke a sense of spaciousness using the most limited formal means possible. Geometry became the starting point, leading to simplified compositions with great expressive power. The minimalist form, capable of accommodating the complexity of the world and the human psyche, became for him not only a means, but also a challenge – one that he consistently took up in his subsequent works.
