Born in Warsaw, she is a painter, Master of Fine Arts, and architect. She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology and the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. During her architectural studies, she worked for several years as an assistant in the Architectural Design Department under Prof. Halina Skibniewska.
Anna Kordowicz-Markuszewska draws inspiration from Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, early 20th-century European abstraction, and American abstract art. Conceptualism is also close to her artistic approach.
Her work explores and utilizes the psychological effects of color, form, signs, and symbols. She does not impose interpretations on viewers, believing that doing so would disrupt the pure impact of her art. By focusing on color, form, light, and composition, and their mutual relationships, she creates a new dimension that abandons narration and descriptiveness. Her art evolves, liberates itself, and invites the viewer into a world of experimentation and discovery. This process requires an in-depth engagement with the image and its impact on the mind, remaining in constant motion.
In 2009, she obtained her Master of Fine Arts degree under Prof. Marek Sapetto, presenting a diploma project titled “Boats and Fishing Cutters.” She also completed:
- A drawing annex (“Game”—playing cards and figure studies) under Prof. Ryszard Sekuła
- An artistic textiles annex (Batik technique: “Boats and Fishing Cutters”) under Prof. Dorota Grynczel
- A theoretical thesis (“A Certain Colorful Plane in Architecture”) under Prof. Wojciech Włodarczyk
For years, she has been dedicated to painting, combining traditional oil techniques with experimental approaches to abstraction. She collaborated with her partner, Leszek Markuszewski, designing avant-garde interiors for clients seeking original and functional aesthetic solutions. Recently, she has focused on experimental visual art, exploring the interplay of color and form. She strives to free art from narrative, symbolism, and function, emphasizing its pure, intuitive impact.
She is also active in education, teaching painting, drawing, and composition using an experimental and personalized approach. As part of La Grupa, she collaborates with Leszek Markuszewski, exchanging teaching methods and creating original art education programs.
Anna Kordowicz-Markuszewska has showcased her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland. Her solo exhibitions include presentations at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Galeria Apteka Sztuki, and La Gallery in Kazimierz Dolny. She has also participated in significant group exhibitions, such as the diploma exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts, Counterattack at Galeria Apteka Sztuki, and Modern Polish Colorists in Warsaw. Her works have been featured in ongoing exhibitions at La Gallery in Milanówek and Kazimierz Dolny, where she has been actively engaged in artistic and curatorial projects.
