Jerzy Fober, And the Trees Will Rise Again, 1996. The monumental, vertical figure was made from a single piece of wood. Moving around the work, we observe its visual development: one of its sides, left almost in its raw state, seems to transform into a human body. The composition is crowned by a geometric solid, partially covered with white polychrome. The words I DRZEWA ZMARTWYCHWSTANIE (I TREES RESURRECTION) are engraved on its surface. The raw wood gradually transforms into a human figure, taking on a geometric shape in the upper part, resembling a tablet with an inscription. The process of transformation of matter, inscribed in the structure of the work, gives the impression that the material itself is undergoing resurrection. Through sculptural means of expression, the artist symbolically restores life to matter — on terms appropriate to art.
