Andrzej Fogtt, painting “Brda”, 2020 is part of the artist’s series inspired by the Brda river, in which he skilfully combines landscape realism with abstract expression. Here the composition is dominated by cool greys and deep blacks, forming a dense structure of vertical and horizontal palette-knife strokes that evokes a dark water surface with reflections of trees and buildings. A narrow band of fiery oranges, reds and yellows runs across the top, suggesting the glow of a sunset mirrored on the river.

The “Brda” series is characterised by an explosion of colour, which for Fogtt becomes a vehicle of emotion and energy. In this version he deliberately limits the palette, enhancing the dramatic contrast between the dark, almost monolithic “mirror” of the water and the incandescent horizon.
