Andrzej Fogtt, “Brda”, 2020 – abstract river landscape in blue, vibrating light and motion
Andrzej Fogtt, painting “Brda”, 2020 is another work from the artist’s series inspired by the Brda river, this time rendered in a cool palette of blues, navy tones and greens. A dense network of short palette-knife strokes builds a structural grid that evokes an aerial view of a river, reflections on the water or a fragment of urban riverside architecture. At the centre Fogtt leaves a bright, almost empty rectangular field that can be read as a window, a patch of open water or a luminous gap in the landscape.
The impressionistic application of paint and the blurred, overlapping forms make the image appear to pulse with light and movement. Layers of blue and black shimmer like a rippling water surface, alternately revealing and hiding the white ground beneath. “Brda”, 2020, is a painting that hovers between recognisable landscape and pure expression of colour and texture, leaving ample space for personal interpretation – from associations with water and architecture to an abstract “code” of emotions.
The work perfectly illustrates Fogtt’s signature approach: merging landscape with abstraction, using colour in an expressive way and building a rich, textured oil surface. It is an excellent choice for collectors looking for contemporary abstract painting inspired by nature yet open to multiple readings and meanings.
