‘The World’ is my own interpretation of the tarot card of the same name, the last of the Major Arcana, numbered 21, which has sometimes been described by other names: The Universe, The Saviour, The Dancing God, Christ. The appearance of the World card may symbolise the conclusion of a certain stage in life, the attainment of success, the fulfilment of dreams, the realisation of plans, fame, recognition, the winning of awards, and good prospects. The card signifies the attainment of inner peace, success in all spheres of life, and international connections. According to this interpretation, my painting ‘The World’ symbolises immense awareness, success, karmic fulfilment, reward, liberation, achievement, satisfaction, evolution, participation, and events concerning the world. The intense, colourful hues of the scarves refer to the joy of life, hope and rebirth, resulting from cyclicality. Coming full circle and finding oneself back at the starting point means that the journey has not really ended and never ends. There will always be further stages of life, and there will always be further layers of consciousness to discover.

The image of the World was also conceived as the Universe, based on the premise that the Fool’s journey has come to an end and that, having come full circle to find himself back at the starting point, he has gained a new perspective on the world. He is no longer as naive and innocent as he was at the start of his journey. He has gained self-confidence and once again has the world at his feet. He is ready to embark on the next stage of his journey. This composition symbolises an ending and a new beginning. The two circles on the canvas allude to cartographic maps depicting the two hemispheres; they illustrate the duality of the world—vertical and horizontal, good and evil, day and night. In creating them, I was also inspired by the theory The colour scheme of the painting reminds me of Henri Matisse’s early series ‘The Joy of Life’.

“The World” Painting – Oil on Canvas, 110 × 140 cm, 2026

“The World” is a large-format oil painting on canvas and an original artistic interpretation of the XXI Tarot card – the final card of the Major Arcana. The work refers to the symbolism of fulfilment, completion, success, inner harmony and readiness to begin a new stage. In this painterly vision, “The World” also becomes a metaphor for the Universe: a space of transformation, awareness, karmic completion and the continuous movement of life.

The composition is built around a dynamic arrangement of intensely coloured fabrics, forming an almost cosmic, vibrant structure. The richness of colour, ornamental patterns and contrasting visual rhythms evokes joy, rebirth, hope and the cyclical nature of existence. Reds, blues, greens, yellows and pink accents create an expressive visual field in which colour energy meets the symbolism of movement, journey and spiritual evolution.

The painting refers to the idea of completing a life cycle and returning to the starting point with a transformed perspective. The journey does not truly end – every achieved goal opens another path, another experience and another level of consciousness. “The World” therefore symbolises fulfilment, reward, liberation, achievement, satisfaction, evolution and participation in a greater universal order.

The circular forms visible in the composition evoke cartographic maps and depictions of two hemispheres. They may be interpreted as signs of the world’s duality: vertical and horizontal, good and evil, day and night, beginning and end. Conceptually, the painting also refers to the idea of equivalent forces and transcendent values associated with the theories of Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg, while its vibrant palette may bring to mind the vitality and sensual joy present in Henri Matisse’s early works.

“The World” is a painting for collectors seeking art rich in symbolism, colour and positive energy. It is ideal as a focal point in a contemporary interior, private collection, office, apartment, home gallery or representative living space. This artwork combines strong decorative impact with a deep symbolic narrative, connecting contemporary symbolic painting with a spiritual reflection on the cycle of life.
