Biography and education
Born on 9 October 1950 in Poznań, Andrzej Fogtt graduated in 1974 from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań under the supervision of Prof. Magdalena Abakanowicz and Prof. Zdzisław Kępiński. This strong academic background, combined with his individual explorations, laid the foundations for his distinctive approach to abstract painting.
Fogtt quickly gained recognition on the Polish art scene. In 1979 he received an award at the 8th Art Festival at Zachęta in Warsaw, and in 1984 he won the Grand Prix at the Festival of Polish Painting in Szczecin. That same year he represented Poland at the Venice Biennale, marking an important milestone in his international career.
In 2009 he was honoured with the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture awarded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, recognising his long-standing contribution to Polish contemporary art.
